Scottish Launch of Persecuted and Forgotten? 2015 Report

The Scottish launch of the 2015 edition of Persecuted and Forgotten? A Report on Christians oppressed for their Faith will take place on 15th October in Aberdeen.

Invitation

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you, (YES YOU!) to this FREE event

Attacks on Christian communities in the likes of Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Nigeria over the past 12 to 24 months have put the international spot-light on an otherwise little-known human rights catastrophe of modern times. Christians, the most persecuted faith group, are being driven out of parts of Africa, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East.

Details

The evening will begin at 7pm with Mass, where Bishop Hugh Gilbert (Diocese of Aberdeen) will be the lead celebrant. After Mass, we have invited witnesses from Iraq, Syria and Nigeria to give testimony in the Cathedral Hall.

When: 15th October at 7pm.
Where: St Mary’s RC Cathedral (20 Huntly St, Aberdeen AB10 1SH)
Who: Invited speakers include Father Douglas Bazi (Iraq) who was tortured by Al-Qaeda and now works in Iraqi displacement camps, Father Ziad Hilal SJ (Syria) who oversees ACN projects in Homs and Victoria Youhanna (Nigeria), a 15 year old school girl and former
prisoner of Boko-Haram.

The Report

Drawing on in-country research and corroborated against existing research material, Persecuted and Forgotten? assesses the extent of human rights violations against Christians in more than 20 countries where the problem is most severe. Detailing key incidents of persecution, each country report analyses the evolving causes of persecution since the last report of 2013. They also highlight the nature of the oppression suffered by Christians and others as well as regional and global trends.

The report also reveals ‘faces of persecution': people whose own story of suffering illustrates the human impact of violence and oppression.

To register your interest

The event is FREE, but there will be a collection for projects in Iraq, Syria and Nigeria.
