Aid to the Church in Need Scotland’s ‘Solidarity Campaign’

Clare Adamson MSP, has added her backing to Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Scotland's 'Solidarity Campaign'.

During a visit to the ACN Scotland office on Friday the 23rd January, Clare Adamson MSP became the first Member of the Scottish Parliament  to sign up to our 'Solidarity Campaign.'

The MSP for Central Scotland was very supportive of the work ACN does and expressed her desire that Scotland could lead the way in promoting and defending religious freedom.  Ms Adamson expressed her commitment to persecuted Christians by signing the ACN Solidarity Pledge, that states:

'I pledge to stand in solidarity with Christians who are persecuted, oppressed or in pastoral need.'

The campaign directly asks the people of Scotland to pledge their support to stand in solidarity with Christians who are persecuted or oppressed because of their faith. Aid to the Church in Need Scotland recognises that religious freedom is a human right and as such is asking all of Scotland, not only people of faith, to pledge their support.

In a statement to ACN, Clare Adamson MSP said:

“The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 18 states that ‘Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.’

“I fully support this article and commend ACN and other human rights organisations who highlight and campaign against religious persecution of all faiths wherever it occurs in the world.”
